La storiografia ha sempre manifestato un particolare interesse per l'esistenza di forme generalizzate di trasmissione intergenerazionale dei mestieri nelle famiglie di artigiani viste come una delle possibilità con le quali poteva essere preservato il patrimonio familiare in ragione, principalmente, delle caratteristiche e dell'organizzazione del lavoro artigianale, fatto che spiegherebbe il perché i figli degli artigiani scelgono di svolgere lo stesso mestiere dei padri o mestieri molto simili. The diffusion of generalised forms of jobs transmission from generation to generation among the artisan families has always aroused great interest in the historical studies. Due to the characteristics and the organisation of the artisan job, this transmission is seen as one of the possible strategies to keep the family patrimony. [...]
The few studies on this subject referring to the Spanish region of Catalonia let us suppose that this practice was not as common as we could expect.
The aim of this contribution is to allow a better knowledge of the attitudes showed by the artisans on the basis of a systematic examination of the marriage acts of Igualada, a Catalan municipality characterised by a great manufacturing development in the 17th and 18th Centuries.
